Baseball translation: one whole team's turn to bat — NOT a baseball inning
The single most confusing word between the sports, because the two meanings differ by a factor of nine. Baseball's 9 innings are 18 separate turns at bat; ONE cricket innings is a team's entire offensive game. So a T20 or ODI has 2 innings (each side bats once) and a Test has 4 (each side bats twice) — those are complete matches, not shortened ones. A cricket innings ends after its overs run out (120 balls in T20, 300 in an ODI, no limit in a Test) or when 10 outs are recorded.
